SAN Engineer (EMC, Veritas)

Job Description:
Our client, a large insurance company in downtown Chicago, is seeking a Storage Area Network Engineer.  This consultant will support share storage array systems and ensure consistent performance.  other duties might include:

• Participate in the installation, configuration and tuning of storage software on all host platforms including Windows 2000, HP-UX, and Solaris
• Adhere to security procedures for both logical and physical protection of servers, fiber switches, and storage arrays
• Support the timely resolution of trouble calls from the help desk where the core issue relates to storage arrays, fiber channel switches, and fiber channel tape devices
• Participate in research and developemtn effort leading to improvements to the existing production storage environment
• Participation in on-call service rotation
• Backup and restore administration within development and production environments
• Must be available to work off-shifts, as requested by management in order to support operations
• Lead effort of storage consolidation, identifying storage growth
• Work with other teams to develop disaster recovery needs
• Lead projects in planning and execution of storage management methodologies for mission critical systems
• Manage configuration of storage media and storage management software
• Help specify requirements for system support for technical enhancements

Technical Requirements:

• 4+ years experience working with SAN technology
• Must have experience supporting EMC Symmetrix and Connectrix hardware
• Must have good working experience with Veritas Foundation Suite and Netbackup 4.5
• Experience working in a large, enterprise environment with 100s of servers
• Extensive experience with problem resolution, root cause analysis, etc. of hardware/spftware platform problems in complex, layered, client/server based software
• Good familiarity with TCP/IP amd networked systems
• Participated in several large mulit-faceted software developemtn projects
• Must be capable of scripting storage operation commands such as TimeFinder
• Strong knowledge of MSOffice, especially Excel
• Experience with Lotus notes a plus
